No sound buttons after Creative Audigy Update

System is a Gateway 500XL, running WinXP, fully updated.

Today Windows Update recommended:
"Creative - Sound - Creative Audigy Audio Processor (WDM)"
an a "Hardware, Optional" update.

After the update, I always got a memory exception by "daemon" after log-in,
and the volume control buttons (increase/decrease/mute) on my Gateway SK-9920
keyboard no longer functioned.

I rolled back, and my volume keys work again. Windows still recommends this
udpate -- not sure why, since it is dated Aug 2006.

Any ideas?

Decline the update by UNchecking the box next to it
Click OK
Put a mark next to " Do not show this update again " in the window that
pops up
Click OK

IF the update is being offered on the Windows Update site, then click
the plus sign next to the update, put a check mark in the box that
states " Don't show this update again ", then click " Review and install
updates " towards the top of the page. It's now hidden.

*** Strongly suggest *** that you visit Creative's web site for updates
for the sound card installed.
