no sound (NAT router?)

MSN Messenger version: 8.0.0812.00
operating system: WinXP sp2
Router: Linksys WRT54G (firmware version: v4.30.5, Apr. 27, 2006)

I am behind a NAT Router. UPnP is enabled on it. During a video call I can
see/hear my friends and they can see me, but they can't hear me. My
microphone is on and working. (I see the green bars move when I speak and I
can record sounds with the built in microphone to my webcam.)

I suspect that the router might be somehow interfering.

I've seen numerous references to NAT routers blocking the sound on MSN
Messenger on various web sites. Is there a work around for this?

Cheers!

Greetings Oxford,

You and your contact might try turning off the QoS Packet Scheduler. To do so, click Start,
then click the Control Panel. If you're in category view click Network and Internet
connections then click Network Connections. Right click your network/internet connection,
then click Properties. Uncheck the QoS Packet Scheduler, then reboot and try again.

Thanks, Jonathan, for your reply.

I checked my network connection and the QoS Packet Scheduler is already
deselected.

Is there anything else I should check?

Cheers!

Found the problem.

Universal Plug and Play Device Host was turned off under Services.

It works now.

Cheers!

Hi,

That'll do it, especially on Linksys routers.
