First thing you can tell from what you have observed is that WMP lacks a
codec for those sounds. WMP has ways to look for those automatically, but
perhaps the one you have is corrupted.
To determine what codec was used with a specific file, play the file in the
Player, if possible. While the file is playing, right-click the file in the
library, and then click Properties. On the File tab, look at the Audio codec
If you deleted the CBS audio codec, it's likely that WMP would then
re-acquire a good copy.
