No sound with photos

I recently "upgraded" from XP to Vista Home Premium. Big mistake! I have
used my camera to take group photos for years and I used the camera's
recording function as a means to identify the people in the photos. It
worked great! Now, with Vista, I am unable to get any sound whatsoever.
The visual indicator moves across the screen as though there was sound
there. I have tried "open with" different alternatives with no results. I
can get sound by kind of going in through another program (Roxio) so I know
the sound is there. Vista has cost me a significant amount in that I could
not use some programs plus I had to buy a new printer. HELP!

What application are you using to open/view the photos that you are also
expecting to hear sound from? I'd be happy to try to help you trouble shoot
what appears to be a configuration issue but more information is needed. My
initial thought would be to check your vista sound mixer and make sure that
the viewing application you are using has not been muted. Vista now allows
for separate volume control of every application you have running so you
could for instance mute the system sounds or Messenger dings while listening
to music etc. etc.

I've tried the various "open as" alternatives and none of them work.
Friends send me e-mail with photos and sound and I can open them. I have
Microsoft's Encarta dictionary and I used to be able to hear a word
pronounced correctly by it. Now, that no longer works. I took my computer
to the local sick computer shop. I hope the experts there can help. Thank
you for your offer. I am in VA so we are three time zones away from each
other. One possibility is that Vista has come out with a service pack that
I have been unable to successfully install. That MIGHT correct the problem.

Have you looked at your Vista Sound Mixer when you have the file open to see
if there is an associated sound application that is MUTED?
