No Sound since Oct15 Update??

,Since auto downloading latest Windows Critical Updates KB 896688 & KB
904706, I have lost sound completely from my system, W98se, Wmp9, IE 6 sp1,
DirX9.
Not being puter savvy I would appreciate any assistance/suggestions to get
back sound again.Thanks in advance.

it might sound daft but first of all check your speakers are wired up
correctly and powered.
second check hardware manager and see if your sound card is listed if it's
not try reinstalling it's drivers

Have you tried uninstalling the updates and see (or rather hear!) if
the sound comes back?
