Assuming you uninstalled sigmatel from Device Manager, restart your computer
and let it reinstall.
Regarding your problem with updates.
Uninstall the recent updates. Restart. If this solves your problem,
reinstall one at a time, testing as you go, until you find the culprit.
For future reference, do not automatically install updates. Choose the
option “Download updates for me, but let me choose when to install them”
