OK, there is another update that fixes similar problems, but is focused on
the sound device instead of just the speakers. Take a look at the following
article to see if this describes your sound device.
A high definition audio device may no longer work after you resume Windows
Vista from hibernation or from sleep:

This article has a downloadable fix.
There are so many problems with the hibernate/sleep components that we are
seeing and these have been made a high priority in Service Pack 1. The final
version of SP1 should be released soon.
