No START button after update

My computer updated on 6/11/08, and I haven't seen the start button OR my
time/date ever since it restarted. I am now missing that entire bottom
taskbar!

Also, my computer has been running VERY POORLY ever since the update. I'll
click on something & although it might say it's "connecting", the blue circle
icon (that usually indicates that it's doing something) isn't doing anything.
I'm constantly holding down F5 to refresh after I select ANYTHING/EVERYTHING!

Will the Windows button on the keyboard not bring up the start menu?

Press Control+Alt+Delete keys, (The dialog box for Windows Task Manager opens)
Select the File menu, then New Task (Run), (The dialog box for Create New Task opens)
Type in "Explorer" (without the quotes)
Press OK button.

Hopefully Windows Explorer restarts with the Taskbar and Start button.
