No Start menu, no icons

After installing my Windows Automatic Updates last night, my desktop shows
nothing but my wallpaper. My start menu & icons are gone. I have followed the
suggestions in the other posts about uninstalling the updates and my icons
and start menu are still gone. I have tried to reinstall and the problem
still persists. I have now uninstalled the updates from Windows from last
night again. Needless to say, the problem still exists.

Has anyone else experienced this problem and have an effective mode of
fixing it? Does anyone know if Windows is trying to fix this problem?

I REALLY need some answers about this, thanks for our help.

I called Microsoft's help & support line. It can be found on the website.
They led me through an effective yet lengthy process. My computer is now
running smoothly.

I am having the same problem with my system what did they instruct you to do
in order to get your icons and start menu back?
