I did whatever update windows wanted me to do, and after I restarted, it
keeps coming back with no start menu or anything. In order to access the
internet I had to do control alt and delete and go to run from there. I have
restarted several times and keep getting a windows explorer error message. I
was wondering if anyone could help? Or how to get to system restore through
'cmd' because I can't get to it because of no start menu!! THANKS!

What OS are you using?

This is for XP - instructions at top of page of Kelly's site

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Line 117 – Restore Taskbar and Start Menu

Taskbar Repair Tool Plus!
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/taskbarplus!.htm

or Line #195 "Restore Desktop Icons and Taskbar"
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

What OS? I would suspect the Windows Shell Vulnerability critical patch
first
(908531)
.. Uninstall it and see if that fixes it.

this looks like a great page, but I tried all 3 to no effect. There was an
update, Windows Validation (05/31/06), I loaded this morning and rebootd and
since then no desktop. Any other ideas.

Press Control+Alt+Delete keys, (The dialog box for Windows Task Manager opens)
Select the File menu, then New Task (Run), (The dialog box for Create New Task
opens)
Type in "Explorer" (without the quotes)
Press OK button.

Hopefully Windows Explorer restarts with the Taskbar and Start button.

if not - Taskbar Is Missing When You Log On to Windows
