Subject: SP 2 start up problems

I installed SP 2 on my Dell Inspirion 2500 o/s win XP.
Since installation, my computer does not want to start
up. I get the win XP screen and all the normal sounds -
then the "blue screen of death". I have run defrag twice
and scandisk many times. I have checked to see that I
have the latest hardware drivers. The only procedure that
seems to result in a successful boot up is to press
control/alt/delete when the first scandisk screen appears
and says to press any key to cancel. Any other
suggestions?

Judith;
Go to the website of your hard drive manufacturer and get their hard
drive diagnostics.

How to use the Automatic Recovery feature to recover your computer if
the Windows XP Service Pack 2 Setup program is not completed
successfully:
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=875355

Reboot tapping F8 each second.
Select "Last known good configuration" at the menu.
If that fails, reboot tapping F8 again this time choosing Safe Mode.
Then System Restore to Date/Time before issue started:
Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore

Otherwise perform a Repair Installation:

When you are ready for SP-2, follow the Service Pack Installation
Checklist:

Thank you for your help. In the end, following a system
restore and a checkdisk, my system operates. I am
surprised to see SP2 still installed after I restored to
an earlier time, but apparently it is. Thanks again.
