No "Up" button in Explorer: I still miss it!

Hi,

Dozens of people have explained to me why I do not need an "Up" button
in Windows Explorer (meaning directory up). So do not try to explain to
me how I can live without it. I may not need it just like I do not need
a lot of the things I use on my computer. I want it though because I
choose to be stubborn and stupid and afraid of learning new things
(just trying to avoid some troll-remarks always following this topic).
I know there are elegant ways to traverse directories in Vista's
Explorer, but the "Up" button is so intuitive and "in my blood" that I
miss it. What I do not understand is why it was removed. Not enough
room? Or was someone in MS trying to make a statement like: "Thou shalt
not use an up button".

Beats me. Oh well, I'm using FreeCommander for all my file management
these days. It has a up button and a up icon on top of each directory
listing pane. Btw, FreeCommander is so good it's a miracle it's free.
If you start digging into that program you will find you can create a
beast of a file manager doing everything related to files twice as fast
as Explorer including FTP, network, archiving and syncing. Amazing.

Still, I want my "Up" button in Explorer back :P

Here is a third-party alternative (not a freeware)

Mavis Applications - Mavis Up Button:
http://www.mavisapps.com/up-button/

You can use the breadcrumb navigation to go to the parent folder, or use the ALT+UP button.

Where is the "Up" button in Windows Vista?

Thanks! I'll pay 5 bucks to get the Up button back for sure. It's a
steal!

I'm glad that MS in this cases removes something and adds a business
opportunity for someone instead of doing what they normally do: add
something to the OS which takes away business for someone

Can't help it though: Why, oh why remove it in the first place? I know
about a million buttons and crap in Vista I would want removed before
the Up button. Come to think of it, I have removed a million things
from Vista. May be the reason I like it so much?
