No updates are installing! Yeah, SP3 is installed ...

I guess this is the main problem of the year. I can download the updates, but
they will not install. The window I get is the "Installing Updates" window
and it says:

"Some updates were not installed" (which would be all of them), then it
lists them.

I even tried clearing all of the express updates, and choosing ONE single
optional update, and got the same response.

All of the updates I try to have installed DO say on the updates website
that they have "failed".

So, what is going on and why? IS it due to SP3? Because that was installed
on my computer as well, and since then .. well, you guessed it, same result
as just about everyone else here.

Am using a Dell Laptop Computer with Windows XP Home Edition, SP3, Pentium
Dual CPU at 1.73GHz, and 1GB RAM.

*Note: I also have a Desktop Computer, Sony Vaio with Windows XP MCE & SP3
and have no problems updating whatsoever.

So, who is going to be the Hero for this widespread ongoing dilemma?

Please Help!

Thanks.

Hey PA Bear, you saved me hours of brainstorm to try to fix it up. Many, many
thanks on it.

Best regards.

PA Bear, you rock!. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144 did the trick
for me too. Others might want to know that although this KB article states
this problem happens when you use the XP repair disc, for me it occured on
newly installed machine during one of the rounds of updates needed to bring
the XP SP2 install up to current patching levels (including IE7 and XP SP3).
So, once again, thanks PA Bear.

Hmmm ... try: Updates are not installed successfully from Windows
Update, from Microsoft Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you
perform a new Windows XP installation or you repair a Windows XP
installation
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144

Try this first - Method 1: Register the Wups2.dll file in Windows
