No Updates

Friend running XP Pro w/SP3 has not received any MS updates since
November 2008. He has Automatic updates turned on. We manually went to
MS Windows update site and it scanned his machine and says no updates
available. Checked the update history there and it shows last update was
in November 2008. My machine which has same OS and history shows 11 XP
updates and 2 IE-7 updates since November.

Anybody have a clue as to what happened.

There is a very good chance are that you are seeing the affects of a
hijackware infection.

1. See if you can download/run the MSRT manually:

2. Run this online scan (in safe mode w/networking, if need be):

3. Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting the requested
logs in an appropriate forum, not here.

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.

Have a look at my thread 'updater wont tell me updates are available'
15/02/2009 4-10pm. eventually reinstalling SP3 using the full version
did the trick for me!

Thanks mikef. Will try Shenan remedy and if that don't work will see
what PaBear has.
