Hi All

Running Messenger 8.10178.00 on Vista Home Premium

Under Audio / Video tune up, everything works perfectly. ie Video shows,
microphone works.

However if I attempt to start a video conversation, the video works 100% ok,
but the microphone fader stays at minimum and can not be adjusted.
If I start an audio only conversation everything works fine.

This is driving me mad. I have checked and rechecked dozens of times, tried
it wirh many different contacts, but all to no avail.

The Connection wizzard reports all is well...

Has anyone any suggestions for where to look to sort this please?

Anyone?? !!

Mark

Greetings Mark,

What happens if you initiate the audio call. After it's connected, press the Alt key on the
keyboard, choose the Actions menu, then Video, and choose Show my webcam.

Hi Jonathan

WOW! That works! After weeks of me pulling my hair out, you sort it in 5
seconds!

So what am I doing wrong on the main screen when I select 'Start/Stop video
call"

Many thanks..

Mark

Hi Mark,

Nothing, that function is slightly different than doing them separate. That was just a
workaround.

Why it isn't working properly, well, I'm unsure.

The problem with this workaround is that if tyou start an audio call then
start video after, then you don't have the full screen video option. At
least not that I can see.

It's a pretty big problem.

I have the same problem when starting a "Video Call" there is no audio on
either end. When starting a "Call Computer" call I get audio, turn on video,
but no full screen option. Which was the point of buying shiny new Microsoft
web cams with higher resolutions.

Greetings Jonathan,

as this is a very common problem, do you know if Microsoft is planning to
fix it in the one of the next versions of messenger, or even provide a patch
for current versions of messenger?

Not exactly "on topic", but I have a 1.3 Megapixel webcam and see no way to
adjust the resolution of the video in messenger - can this be done? And
would it not be even slower, if the video had a higher resolution - it's
more or less 2 frames/sec already...

Thanks!
