I would just suggest that MS has their hands full trying to patch the buggy
beasta!

The title for this newspost is easily the most significant of all 12 Short
Takes Paul Thurrott has put together for the week of April 9. "If you were
looking for any glimpse into the mind of Microsoft, this is it: The company
has completely abandoned Windows XP, and it has absolutely no plans to ever
ship an XP SP3." The majority of the Short Takes have already been posted up
on our front page, the rest are simply speculation on Paul's part. Here are
the individual headlines:
a.. Microsoft Considers Near-Free Zune Model
b.. Microsoft Releases Home Server SDK
c.. Hungarian Notation Creator Heads to Space
d.. Microsoft Threatens Poster of Vista SP1 Info
e.. The Truth About Vista SP1
f.. And What About Windows XP Service Pack 3?
g.. Microsoft Preps Longhorn Server Beta 3
h.. In Wake of Lawsuit, Microsoft Changes Vista Logo Branding
i.. Microsoft Moves Hotmail Plus to 4 GB as Yahoo! Goes Unlimited
j.. Acer Notebook Sales Surge
k.. Sony Cuts PSP Price
l.. Microsoft Improves Xbox 360 Warranty... Again

Well, how else is Microsoft going to convince its users that they MUST
upgrade to Vista? They certainly haven't been convincing them because of
the merits of Vista.

Love and Kisses,

That is Paul Thurrotts assumption, he is not Gospel. And it would not be
considered abandoned if they are providing a Roll up Pack. XP will be
supported until 2008 with main stream support until about 2010, XP Media
Center I read is supported until 2013 not bad compared to competition.
Novell and Redhat support their distributions of Linux for 7 years, Apples
OS X, a new version obseletes the old version and based on their release
cycles its really quick.

are you suuuuurrrreeee you don't work for ms??

"Support" is different than making a service pack my little feathered parrot
friend.

Something is happening behind the MS doors... and it involves vista, a lot a
yelling fighting and bad tempers....

A service pack includes mostly updates and security fixes. MS is providing
both for XP and will do so for some time. If you like, you can collect all
of these, zip them up and call them a service pack.

If that's true, consider the competition.
