On a new Dell (64bit) when you click on the tray icon to remove a USB thumb drive there is a static sound in the speakers and then a Blue Screen of Death and the computer reboots. But after you select a user from the next welcome screen, you get a black screen with the arrow only. The task manager is required (Ctrl+alt+Del) to logoff and then on restart it works fine. If you just pull the thumb drive, without the tray icon to get permission, no problem with the computer. (unknown if you screwed the thumb drive)

New machine exhibiting those kinds of symptoms = contact Dell tech support
for repair/replacement. Sounds like hardware so exercise your warranty.

Unfortunately this is on a neighbors new computer, not mine, and the screen disappears before we could get the code.
He will try to duplicate this later and then call DELL, but who wants to talk to someone on the phone who says
"The phone goes green - green - green,
I Pink it up and then say Yellow, this is Howard can I help?"

It turns out to be one of the 8/25 updates. Removing these updates fixed the problem.
Now to figure out which one.
