I can't update anything because as soon as it finishes installing it tells me
that I have another process pending a reboot. I then reboot (as instructed),
go back to the installation page (as instructed), reinstall (as instructed),
and get the same message again. And again. I've tried running the most
recent malicious spyware removal tool (found nothing). I've tried multiple
reboots between installations (no change).
Currently running Win 2000 SP4, 2GHz Pentium, 512M RAM, IE 5.5 (trying to
update to 6 is when I found the problem). I have Symantec Firewall
installed, but it's turned off.
I don't know whether or not this is relevant, but I've looked through the
log files of the last few updates, and part way through update KB912919.log I
find the line: "0.030: Failed To Enable SE_SHUTDOWN_PRIVILEGE" for the first
time. Every update since that has that line in it.
