Is anyone getting the status of Norton AV 2003 Virus Protection in as being
up-to-date and protecting the PC (green light in Security Center)?

I've upgraded 2 systems to SP2 without any difficulty. One has Systemworks
2004 and it's antivirus component. Windows recognizes this as being
installed and gives the green light for virus protection in the new Windows
Security Center.

The other PC upgraded without incident, however, I do not get the green
light for antivirus 2003. I run the liveup date to and it assures me 2003 is
up-to-date, even upgraded to a recommended new Liveupdate program for
Nortion based on their recommendation.

Norton mentions the issue in their knowledgebase, however, they seem to be
vague and general rather that addressing the specific issues associated with
2003/2004 antivirus. So it makes me think they repaired 2004 and you need to
buy a new version to get the Security Center to recognize the status if you
have version 2003.

Yep, Symantec apparently considers versions 2003 and older
obsolete. It appears they will not be offering an update so
that it is properly monitored by the Windows Security Center.

Hi

From what I have heard, Symantec is going to release an update
for the 2003 version as well (but it might not be available yet).

Here's a response I received regarding Norton antivirus 2003 from Symantec:

Thank you for contacting Symantec Online Technical Support.

I understand your concerns regarding the issue with Windows Security Pack 2
and compatibility with Windows 2003. Please note that Symantec has released
Windows management Instrumentation (WMI) patch for NSW 2004 and symantec is
currently working on the patch for 2003 version of symantec products. This
patch will be available through LiveUpdate and if you have any concerns then
please let us know more about the issue.

If you have further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact
us.

I ran the attached file on 2003 and it seems to work well.
Use at your discretion.
