I purchase a new computer with the Vista operating system and installed
Norton Internet Security 2008 on it. Every couple of days the status of
Norton changes from "secure" to "your temporary subscription has expired". I
have uninstalled and reinstalled (numerous times), spent hours chatting with
online support and spent hour talking with support (somewhere in India). All
to no avail. I have had the program for 31 days and had it expire about
10-12 times. I am going to return the Norton program and need to know what
virus program will run with Vista?

I like Windows Live OneCare quite a bit.

Whatever you get, go for a minimalist program that just zaps viruses, maybe
a spyware and firewall, but nothing else. The big security products like
Norton are so bloated that they're worthless.

NIS2007 works fine here. I dont think you can still find it on
store shelves, however.

Use Avast Free 4 Home Anti-virus. It even works on Vista 64bit.

In a perfect world you wouldn't be able to find ANY version on shelves, or
available for sale anywhere, it's crap.

DO NOT USE: One care! Possibly the crapiest app ever concived. 0
protection.

Norton is a close second.

NOD32 is the best there is period. Combined witha good firewall and
anti spyware apps you can even shutdown that pesky UAC and still enjoy
total online safety.

I downloaded the beta of Windows Live One Care for Vista 64 bit. It works great. Doesn't bog the system down. Checks spyware and viruses. Gets Windows updates. I've been very happy with it. I wouldn't touch Norton with a 10 foot stick.

My new Vista system came with NIS 2007 installed. Stuck with it for a few
months, but have since uninstalled (btw, have read to *not* use the Norton
Removal Tool on Vista systems). I'm using AVG 7.5 (free edition) and really
like the simplicity of it. You can upgrade to the Pro edition (~$50) to add
anti-spam/firewall protection.
