You used System Restore or the Restore/Recovery CD/partition to "reset
everything"?

Please see this page http://66.39.69.143/goodpost.htm then post back to this
thread with the information we'd need to be able to assist you properly.

I used system restore to factory issued. Then i went to the MS website and
went to where it checks to see what updates my computer needs, it downloads
to 100% then refreshes to 100%. Then i get red letters that read "Website has
encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are trying to view" and
it had error # 0x8024d007. and it wont let me do anything else as far as
updating my windows Xp home edition. Thank you and i hope this helps more...

Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from Microsoft
Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you repair a Windows XP
installation:

I am having the same problem - I can't even turn automatic updates on and the
internet explorer freezes when I go to Windows Updates. I want to install
Vista, but it says that all the updates for XP must be done first. How can I
get these updates. It's wasting my internet time too.
