not able to send or receive emails in Windows Mail

All of a sudden I am unable to send or receive emails using Windows Mail
which I have been using for years. The error message is "Socket Error 10061
and Error #0x800CCC0E. Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

There were two error messages: 1= Account: 'mail.hughes.net', Server:
'mail.hughes.net', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '.', Port: 110,
Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC18

2=The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'pop.gmail.com', Server:
'pop.gmail.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error:
10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

I can tell you what's wrong in gmail :--
Change port # to 995 , not 110
Put a checkmark on " This server requires a secure connection (SSL)
Perhaps, same could be applied to hughes.net, but don't hold me on that.

Did you enable POP on the gmail site?

Check all your settings against those provided here:

Thanks, you have been very patient. I now have the gmail working fine but
the Hughesmail has stopped and I am getting the following message: Account:
'mail.hughes.net', Server: 'mail.hughes.net', Protocol: POP3, Server
Response: '.', Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Error Number: 0x800CCC18

I cannot find anything on the Hughes website to help me but if you have any
ideas, they would be appreciated.
