Not the blue screen you think it is...help

The following link will show you graphically what My blue screen looks like
when my system stops. It is not the blue screen of death but the one that
you see during the bootup process. It is picture number 7. Any suggestions
on how to get beyond this screen? I have an ASUS Pro31jc notebook and even
if i try to login with safe mode, it wont go beyond the safe mode screen
shot...just hangs their.

A Startup Repair would be a good first try at a fix.
