My computer is set for automatic updates. I have not received any since
September. The only one waiting to install is SP3. When I check for
updates I don't get any. I know there was one for IE and I didn't get it or
any others since Sep. Do I need to install SP3 before I can get updates
again. My system is XP home with SP2 installed. Is there someplace that
has all the updates that I can do a manual download? Really want to know
why I don't get any updates since I am set for automatic updates.

[No, you don't need SP3 installed to continue getting updates...at least not
until 2010.]

There's a very strong possibility that the behavior is due to a hijackware
infection.

1. See if you can download/run the MSRT manually:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/ma...e/default.mspx

2. Run this online scan (in safe mode w/networking, if need be):
http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/center/howsafe.htm

3. Run additional checks for hijackware, including posting your hijackthis
log to an appropriate forum.

When all else fails, HijackThis v2.0.2
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe) is the preferred tool to use (in
conjuction with some other utilities). HijackThis will NOT fix anything on
its own, but it will help you to both identify and remove any
hijackware/spyware with assistance from an expert. **Post your log to

http://forums.spybot.info/forumdisplay.php?f=22,

by an expert in such matters, not here.**

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.

This may sound strange but one computer I was working had been offered SP3
and was not ready to have SP3 installed. No more updates offered there
either.

After opening up auto updates and unchecking the box for SP3 and clicking
download, a message box pops up asking it you want to not be offered the
unselected updates again through auto updates. On that machine I choose not
to be offered the update again. After it was hidden all of the not offered
updates were available the next day on my first reboot of the day.

After doing that if you want SP3 you can either go to Windows update website
and choose to install SP3 from there or download a copy from the Microsoft
website.

I have discovered that the problem is with my firewall. They must have
changed something because it was working until the end of sept. I disabled
it and used the windows firewall and got about 20 updates. Need to find out
from my isp who provides the firewall how to correct it to get the updates.
Thanks for your replies.
