will not install downloaded updates

Problem: A problem on your computer is preventing updates from being
downloaded or installed

all have been downloaded, i watched them and each time i go to update it
goes right through as if already downloaded, dont have any programs running
that would stop it, tried turning AVG free off and runing it to same effect
so i dont believe it is the problem, tried restarting.

Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you repair a Windows XP
installation:
