not receiving all my emails

I thought i was receiving all my emails but the more i talk to contacts i
find that they have sent me emails which I do not receive and also they do
not receive error messages saying that they have been returned when they send
email to me. i receive emails even from people who I do not know and I do not
receive emails from some people who are in my address book.
