I tried 'telnet mail.freeola.net 110', and failed to connect. Although
'nslookup mail.freeola.net' answers with an IP address, you may still have a
configuration problem. Perhaps the server name is actually
'pop.freeola.net', or they require access using another port, such as 995.

At this point, you probably should contact 'freeola.net' for assistance.

I'm getting the same problem. I have talked with my ISP (Roadrunner) and
they gave me the information to activate the account; I can send but cannot
receive. I can read my mail on the Roadrunner server. Here's the message I
get:

Unable to send or receive messages for the Kc.rr (mboothe) account. Windows
Live Mail couldn't log on to the e-mail server using authenticated POP
(APOP). Contact your e-mail provider and verify that it supports
authenticated POP. To change this logon setting, in the folder list,
right-click on the account name, and then click Properties on the shortcut
menu. In the Properties dialog, click the Servers tab and then under Incoming
Mail Server, select a logon option.

Server: 'pop-server.kc.rr.com'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x80004005
Protocol: POP3
Port: 110
Secure(SSL): No

Now what?

That's what I was instructed to do. here's part of it from Roadrunner:

7. In the e-mail server names window, select POP3 in the dropdown list.
Fill in the POP server name as pop-server.kc.rr.com under Incoming
server.
8. Select in the Log on using field "Authentication POP (APOP)".
9. Fill in the SMTP address, smtp-server.kc.rr.com, in Outgoing server,

Did I do it incorrectly?

thanks
