Not receiving messages when appearing offline

Hello!

When appearing offline - and sometimes even when I am online - I don't get
all the messages from people that I am talking to.

Sometimes I get a few messages, sometimes none, sometimes (but rarely,
rarely!) all from the contact I am talking to at the moment.

It's getting worse and worse, because my friends think that I am ignoring
their messages, and also because I am wondering (especially when appearing
offline) whether there's a message 'floating' somewhere and waiting for me.
Usually, I do get these messages when I disconnect from WL messenger and
connect again - usually, but not always; sometimes I get them after I
disconnect and reconnect for a second or third time..

I uninstalled and reinstalled WL messenger, I installed windows from zero, I
downloaded the latest messenger (!), nothing helps! The same situation always!

So I installed my old windows xp pro once again, and this time I went back
to Messenger 8.1 (8.1.0178.00), because it uses much less memory.

Anybody knows how to solve this? I feel like postman isn't delivering the
mail, addressed to me.. Because it's been sent for sure, it's just not
delivered.

Thank you in advance,
B.

Greetings,

This has been a known issue for quite some time. All the processing for this is done
server-side, there's nothing you can do on your end to fix this besides avoiding appearing
offline and why all this re-installing and such you've been doing hasn't done anything.

I actually thought the latest client and protocol had gotten some of these things more
reliable, but I could be wrong -- I don't really have many contacts that do the hiding thing.

Hi Jonathan,

first of all thank you very much for your reply!

From your experience, would you say that staying online then solves this
problem (undelivered messages) ?

As I've mentioned (just for the information), I installed the brand new WL
messenger on newly installed windows xp just a few days ago, and the problem
remained.

Best regards,
Boza

Hi Boza,

Absolutely, staying online should provide normal delivery. The problem I'm describing is
this -- when you don't have an active connection between yourself and your contact (which is
what occurs when you're appearing offline) the message gets delivered as an offline message.
If the offline messaging service is not functioning for some reason, then your contact won't
be able to communicate with you. That said, a workaround is just to keep that connection
active, although the only real way of doing this is going to type to your contact.
Connections become inactive after a few minutes normally though.

I admit I've gone back and re-read your initial message now and realize you said this is also
happening when you're online. Also if this above problem is occurring, your contacts would
be notified that the message could not be delivered. I assume they're not reporting that
either?

Hi,

I'm facing the same problem as Bozam and this only happened recently. I've
tried using other accounts on the same computer and they have no problems
receiving offline messages thus it can't be a problem with the software.
Sometimes friends leave short offline messages but because I'm not getting
them, they think i'm ignoring them.

Can anything be done to rectify the situation? Please help.

I have also for about a week now (im always online when doing this/not
hidden) not been getting constant replies from friends, sometimes i'll go 20
mins and get all of them, then 2-3 in a row. I think people are getting
aggravated with me because i keep asking them if they're ignoring me, and
then i'll get a reply from them saying that they've been replying all along.

I fear that my days of Windows Live Messenger are counted and i'll have to
use another messenger program.

If this has "been a known issue for some time", like over a year since this
post, why has it not been fixed? People actually use this service to
communicate, and trade ideas which they believe are worthwhile typing and I
believe are worthwhile reading. Last night I received two portions of
paragraphs, 8 minutes apart. I feel cheated out of friendships by your crappy
software.
