Not Recognising Blank Disks

This appears to have just started (although I don't use burning too often,
so can't be sure).

When I install a blank CD into my ASUS DRW-1612BL burner it shows no disk
present. I have Nero v 7.7.5.1 as well as Cowan JetAudio 7.0.0.3001 Plus VX
and none of these show a blank disk or will allow burning to the CDROM.
Have tried different media and the same media works perfectly when taken to
a Win XP machine to do the task. Have latest firmware v1.10 for the Drive.

Vista Ultimate with 3 Gb RAM on an ASUS P5N-E SLi MoBo. Everything working
fine except for the drive.

Everything set to AUTO in the BIOS for this drive.

I see lots of other references in tech forums with others with the same
problem on all manner of optical drives, but no obvious solution, so
hopefully someone here has solved this?

There is a BIOS upgrade available, but that will be my last straw

Thanks
Frenchy
