Network Printer: HP LaserJet 5P
Error Message:
"Windows cannot connect to the printer. Make sure that you have typed the
name correctly, and that the printer is connected to network."
My printer is functioning fine on my home network. All WinXP PCs see it
fine. Test pages print fine. My problem is with my new Vista32 installation
on a brand-new pc. This is a clean install. I've not imported any settings
from XP PCs.
All PCs and the Printer appear in the Vista32 Network Window. All shared
folders are accessable. The printer is shown twice: once as "Print Server
PS-56143D" and as a folder (same icon as a networked computer) "PS-56143D".
Clicking on the "Print Server..." opens up a web browser with all kinds of
happy, healthy information. A good IP address is shown. The printer is
correctly identified, and its status is "on line."
Clicking on the "PS-56143D" icon reveals an icon for a network printer, with
the printer's correct name "P1." There is also a "Printers" folder that is
empty.
No matter how I go about attempting to install the printer, I get the same
error message:
"Windows cannot connect to the printer. Make sure that you have typed the
name correctly, and that the printer is connected to network."
The auto-search for a Network Printer in the add-a-printer wizard comes up
empty. After the search, manually browsing to "P1" is easy, but the same
error message pops up. In the Network Folder, double-clicking on "P1"
simultaneously pops up the error message and a "Connecting to p1 on Ps56143d"
box.
