not responding issues

Good morning

I recently had a new PC built (have reasons to keep the old ones) with the
specification that it be suitable for Vista, and purchased and had the shop
install Vista Ultimate. I'm looking for some ideas on why having issues with
almost every program giving me the "program not responding" message, albeit
they usually (99% of the time) recover if I wait patiently for about a
minute or two (while patiently beating my head upon the surface of my desk
during the wait). I had thought maybe the install from the shop, so did a
wipe and install, but the problem persists.

The problem happens to every program, installing other programs after the
install made no difference, just added to the number of programs to which
this occurs.

Machine has 2Gb memory, video card is an MSI NX8800GTS-TD2 with 320Mb and
latest driver from nVidea. Hard drive space is no issue - drives are cheap
enough that put in two 320Gb SATA drives. Intel Core 2 Duo. This all lives
on an Intel D975XBX2 Motherboard.

Can this be fixed, or is Vista broke

Greetings

Romane
