Not a Valid Bookmark File

I have "exported" my bookmarks from a PC running "Vista Home Basic."

When I try to "import" that same file into a different PC running "Vista
Ultimate", I get this ERROR MESSAGE: "Not a valid bookmark file".

The file name is just the normal default name given by Internet Explorer
when exporting: bookmark.htm

I have tried exporting the bookmarks 3 times . . . and each time, the PC
with "Vista Ultimate" refuses to acknowledge the file as being valid.

NOTE: When I click on the [bookmark.htm] file with Microsoft Word, the file
DOES look fine -- all the hyperlinks are there, etc.

Have I done something wrong?

Why doesn't the Ultimate PC allow me to import my favorites?

Thanks

Hi,
From Alan Edwards:

Open the page in Notepad and remove this line:

<!-- saved from url=(0022)http://internet.e-mail -->

Save (in Notepad) and try the import again.

Hope this helps,
Don

Sorry . . . . There is no such line anywhere in the file.

How did you transfer the bookmark.htm file from the Vista Home machine to
the Vista Ultimate machine (e.g., via email attachment)?

I copied it to a flash drive. Then copied it from the flash drive into a
folder on the "Vista Ultimate" PC hard drive. (c:\Temp)

I then browsed to that hard drive to try to "import" from that file.

I've never bothered using export/import. I'm assuming there is a
Favorites folder under your %userprofile% in Windows Vista like there is
in prior version of Windows. To transfer my bookmarks, I just copy the
Favorites folder and then later copy all the files/folders underneath it
to my Favorites folder in the other instance of Windows. If there is
duplication, I end up stepping on any duplicates in the target host
rather than trying to import and rename the copy of the same shortcut.

Might have something to do with Zone Integrity if you transfered the
Bookmark.htm file from one machine to another.

On the Target machine(where the Bookmark file does not work), right click on
the file and choose Properties. At the bottom of the General Tab do see
something like this?

"This file came from another computer and might be blocked to help protect
this computer"

If so try clicking on the "Unblock" button to see if you can then import the
file into IE.

Good luck,

Donald Anadell

What Donald said. Also make sure the file does not have a Read Only
attribute.

[Ramesh, can/does this also apply to bookmark.htm files exported from IE7
and/or IE6 (when importing into IE6, IE7, and/or IE8)? I've been meaning to
ask you about that.]
