Hi,
I mailed to MSRC (Microsoft Security Response Center) after having
read some users have problems with (if the Program Files folder has
been moved from default values) or after having KB896688 installed
(ActiveX not working on some systems). Here's the response I've got:
| Hello Freudi,
|
| Thanks for your note. We are looking into these reports (at least those
| that have been reported to us so that we have had a chance to get the
| full reports).
|
| Moving the Program Files folder structure around is not something we
| recommend doing. Depending on how the file structure is moved it may
| cause inconsistencies yielding an unstable system with one of the
| results being what you outlined. Still we are looking into this.
|
| If you do have any other issues that might stem from the installation of
| a security update then I would encourage you to contact Microsoft
| Product Support Services for assistance. You can obtain free
| security-related support from Microsoft by calling +1 (866) 727-2338 in
| the US and Canada, or your local international subsidiary at
|
http://support.microsoft.com/common/international.aspx.
|
| Doing this would help us get the facts we need to be able to discern if
| there are any problems here. As I said earlier, we are looking into the
| other reports too, please stay tuned for any additional details from us.
So please contact the MS support directly if you're running into
problems which you think may be related to KB896688! Any result
of your calls posted here and in the IE6 newsgroup(s) may be
helpfull for other users.
TIA & HTH,
Freudi
