notepad issue

hi there
not sure if this forum is the right place for this , but here goes
my problem is with notepad when i open it and put some writing on i
and then try to save it the computor freezes at the save as dialog box
it will hang like this for about 30 seconds and then the file list wil
eventually populate and i can save the text file. any idea what i
causing this? is there anyway of reinstalling notepad
