Nothing Happens When Checking for ActiveX control

I just restored win XP SP2 on a computer and when i run Win Update I get the
following message

Checking if your computer has the latest version of Windows updating
software for use with the website…

and then nothing happens.

What can i do?

Try method 2

Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from Microsoft
Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you repair a Windows XP
installation

I did the genuine validation thing and it worked, now it seems stuck on
Checking for the latest updates for your computer...

I also downloaded the windowsupdate thing and tried to install it, but I
cannot figure out exactly how do use the wuforce switch, can you explain that
a bit more. please?
