Nothing Happens...WTF?

I have XP Pro+SP2, and every time I try to go to windows update v5, it just
sits there while 'checking for latest version of windows update'....and
nothing happens...

What is going on, how can I fix this without reinstalling XP?

If that didn't work either, and you have Windows XP SP2 installed,
check that the WuWebControlClass is enabled in Internet Explorer:
