Nothing seems to work.

I have tried installing battlefield 2142, counterstike source, age of empires
3, even oregon trail 2, and nothing seems to work. I know my hardware is
fine, it all is boiling down to vista since chances of 4 other companies
screwing up when it all works on XP seems strange. Now I am not trying to
just be a complainer, I want to know if there was anything in Vista I was
supposed to install or enable or disable to get it to run games. Any
suggestions? I tried installing all window's updates.

I agree with Neil, this is probably a video driver issue.

If you post your specifications we'll be able to better assist.

The drivers for the go 7900 only work for XP and directx was installed. The
biggest problem is games don't even get past installation. Age of Empires 3
didn't enter the install wizzard and counterstike source dosn't get past disc
2 without shutting down. I know it is my OS and not my laptop. Is there
anyway possible to some how revert Vista to XP for the time being and change
it back once things get worked out? I would assume I would have to buy a
copy of XP and uninstall vista which could be a costly mistake. Are there
settings somewhere on vista to cause it to act like XP?

Afraid you've had it until NVidia (If) make Vista Drivers. Pretty sure
that will be the problem since even the correct drivers for Vista are
not perfected yet - and there simply isn't one for that 7900.

I think MS should give all gamers a free copy of XP but I don't suppose
they will

Well, There is something definitely wrong with your Vista install. I've have
every game you mentioned, except Oregon Trail 2 installed and working. And
I'm not the only one. If you look over at www.VistaReadyGames.com you'll see
other who have the games working. Also CS: Source is a supported Vista app,
as steam started supporting Vista a while back.

The Fact that you can't even get them to install should be a pointer that
something is not right. Is it only games don't work, what applications have
you tried ?

Also, how about going over to www.futuremark.com and downloading the
3dmark05 or 3dmark06 and installing and running them. 3dmark06 is a Vista
supported app as well.

I'm assuming the Geforce Go 7900 means you have a Notebook. I'm sure I've
read on the Nvidia site somewhere that notebook graphics drivers aren't
supported yet in Vista for gaming. I can't find the link at the moment but
if I do I'll post it. So it could mean of you had the same spec with a
graphics card in a desktop that the games would be fine. Some of the PC
magazines have quoted that certain manufacturers will offer XP on new
notebooks if you ask when you order.

This is most likely it since it is a notebook and Nvidia had no drivers for
Vista. Thanks.
