Notification message won't auto disappear

Got 2 laptops with Vista. One of them, when booted displays the message
about a network drive not been available, and then it fades after 7-10
seconds, like I expect it to. The other laptop, when booted, displays
the same message forever, unless I click on it. How do i make
notification messages such as those fade after a few moments without
requiring that i click on them? (the network drive not being
available is NOT the issue--both laptops have a mapped drive that is
seldom turned on). The issue here only relates to the auto fade feature
of notifications.

To change how long the notification message stays open until i
automatically closes look at this link

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/79...time.html?ltr=

For the fade out, see your other post

http://www.vistax64.com/vista-genera...my-laptops.htm

Hope this helps

Shawn, those options had already been set. I'm stymied now! I tried
resettting the time from 7 to 30 and back a few times. all the options
for the visual effects are enabled. aero works fine otherwise. Its
just that darn "could not reconnect all network drive" message that wont
go away. It sitting on top of my program screen as i type this.

the message box as a yellow triangle, so that means it is an "alert",
correct?

oh, and thanks for making the suggestions--they certainly were the
things that would most likely cause a problem.

I would agree that it would be an alert. Try opening Task Manager an
under "Applications" see if you can "End Task" the alert message" t
kill it

Shawn, I CAN remove the message if i click on it, but I'd like it to
just disappear as it does on the other laptop. On the Gateway laptop it
fades away. Obviously i could start the desktop PC that is mapped to,
and disable the "reconnect at logon" option on my laptop, but I'd prefer
to have the laptops attempt to reach the mapped drive automatically
whenever the desktop PC is turned on. (That desktop holds all the music
that itunes is mapped to). I find it annoying that I have to address
the message window directly by clicking on it to make it go away, when
on the Gateway, the message fades from view as it should.

BTW, I was wrong about the Gateway laptop fading the message via
time--it fades when either the touchpad or the keyboard is touched. I
had assumed it was a 5-10 second thing because thats about how long it
would be before I'd touch either, after seeing the desktop come up
completely. So its a fade out from a keypress or from the touchpad!
Does that narrow down the possibilities of why the message fails to fade
away on my laptop (toshiba)?

Dave,

I'm sorry. I do not know either why it would do it on one and not the
other. Like you, I'm sure it is probably a setting somewhere that needs
to be checked/unchecked. I hope someone else will give you the answer
you need.

Shawn

Dave,

I had/have the exact same problem as you. I think I fixed it, however.
Try following Shawn's tutorial video and make sure the box next to the
drop-down list to hide balloon notifications that says: "Turn off all
unnecessary animations (when possible)" is unchecked. Let me know what
you have already tried and what you have found out as I have this same
problem and I have no idea what happened or how that box was checked.
Let me know if you've fixed it yet and what you've found out please,
David -and -Shawn. Thanks.

I guess I'll just deal with the inconvenience until I figure out how to
solve it. Thank you for your prompt reply and resourceful help. I
appreciate it.
