Notified, but not installing?

I have my AU set to Notify but don't install. An hour ago I got the
shield and I clicked on it and got the checked list of about 6-7
updates. I clicked on the install button. Nothing else was ever
displayed. How Do I know if it's actually installing or downloading
the updates?

Is there a process to check for in the Task Manager or files to look
for in WINNT??

Thx

I looked at my WindowsUpdate.log and it said "priority regulated" a
number of times, and I googled that to find that it just means I
should wait longer. I'm tempted to download the updates manually, but
I already clicked on the shield.

1. You can check the windowsupdate.log to see if anything has downloaded or
you've been pushed back in the queue.

2. Reboot - at least 2 may want to install on shutdown. Perhaps then you'll
ge the rest.

3. Wait and see what happens. You may if you're lucky get notification about
the rest of the updates wanting to install.

What concerns me is that there is so much time between being notified
(and seeing the list of updates) and everything after. That's never
happened before. What happened before is the space before even being
notified.

Will the shield appear again in the future or will it just start
loading?

Thx

Hi Richard, last night I was advised that I had 2 updates to install at
shutdown. I had previously approved other updates as well at the same time. I
was in a hurry so I don't know which ones installed and I also haven't seen
the yellow shield again.

Therefore I can't answer that question.

Did you reboot to see if you were offered any updates to install at shutdown?

If nothing happens in another 24 hours, do a manual scan and see what's
missing/or due to be downloaded and installed.

It's frustrating when it happens like this and you can't check the progress
etc.

K

laurie,

Is the Works update KB955428 ? If yes, then download from here and
*save* it:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

If you're in the US, this is the update package you want:
KB955428_en-US.cab

Follow the 'Instructions' on the bottom of the download page to install it.

ok did that when i try to run i get a message saying the upgrade patch
cannot be installed by the windows installer service because the program to
be upgraded may be missing or the upgrade patch may update a different
version of the program. verify that the program to be upgraded exists on
your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch.

i haver version 8.5 of works.

Hi laurie,

Next step : http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=955428
scroll to: How to obtain help and support for this security update

At least they can clarify if the update applies to you or not (you said you have V8.5).

Please post back any feedback to assist others who are having problems with this
particular update.
