That's because when you input "ca," nslookup relies on the operating
system's Search Suffix. So if you expect it to resolve something out of the
zone on ca.ab.yz.com, the Search Suffix "ab.yz.com" must exist.on the
machine you are running nslookup on.
This also indicates you are trying to resolve the LdapIpAdress of the child
domain ca.ab.yz.com and should return an IP for each DC in that domain.
In a multi domain forest, the best way to setup your DNS resolution
infrastructure is the use of Parent-Child delegation, then set a forwarder
from the child domain to the parent, and for all other child domains, to set
a Search Suffix for the other child domains that you want them to be able to
resolve.
I hope that makes sense and helps.
