I have had to re-install NT Server 4 in order to make it a stand alone
server. When I try to install Windows updates (in particular the 7/26/01
Security Updates) I get the following error:

Could not be installed because of an unknown error (-2147012889)

What is happening? THe domain server is SBS 2003, I have a Pix 501
firewall. The NT is getting network settings from the SBS (which is also a
DHCP server) and DNS settings. Any other info?

NT4 Server and Wokstation are way past their respective End of Life (EoL)

Consider upgrading or replacing with Win2K server or better yet, Win2003 Server.

The security concerns alone necessitate it !

It's not unknown. Is that your interpretation or something you have read?
Convert it to Hex? 80072EE7

Then search:

http://groups-beta.google.com/groups...=2005&safe=off

(Google Groups Advanced search for
msft | mvp (0x80072EE7 OR 80072EE7) group:microsoft.public.windowsupdate
- English only discussions
- restricted date range
- ordered by date to capture current thinking
)

The code indicates a connectivity problem of some kind.
Apparently only for that particular site?
One possibility is third-party interference.
Besides malware, other known causes of this kind of
symptom are certain well-known toolbar add-ons.
