Anyone been able to connect a Vista SP1 PC to an old WinNT terminal server?

No. But if you do manage to find a solution I'd love to hear it.
Not only is Vista SP1 affected but seems to be an issue with Xp-SP3 also.

It is possible if you download XP version of Remote Desktop Connection
(mstsc.exe) and old dll (mstscax.dll)
I personally use them, then this "shipped" with Vista... at least till
problem will not be solved.
(Old mstsc.exe need only mstscax.dll to work properly on most Windows
systems)

Hey,

Thanks for the tip, I got those two files from a less up to date windows XP
computer in the office here and it's working.

mstsc.exe version 5.1.2600.2180
mstscax.dll version 5.1.2600.2180
