Hi all,

I'm getting the error ntldr is missing, though I'm only getting this
error when the laptop is sitting on its docking station. The laptop
boots normally if it isn't.

Has anyone come across this issue in the past?
Any ideas on how to troubleshoot?
It's a dell laptop with a dell docking station.
It's been working fine for months. I've been away for a week, and when
I came back home, this is what was waiting for me.

Very frustrating!
Please help.
The laptop is a latitude d something rather, and it's running vista
premium.

Thanks in advance..

Has the dock added a bootable drive?

Did you make any changes to the BIOS boot sequences recently? Or, do you
know the condition of the drive in the docking station? Did it normally
boot off the drive in the docking station before, and have you changed it to
boot from the laptop? Any other changes in this area?

Is is a dual boot config? Or was it ever dual boot? And what exactly does
this docking station offer you? Do you have a product link.

Hi all, and thanks for your quick responses.

It's simply a dell docking station, with extra USB ports, ethernet/
modem devices, and (the reason I use it), dvi/vga outputs, where I
connect two screens onto (as opposed to only having one vga output if
i was to use the laptop without the dock).

I've not made any changes to the bios, or any upgrades/downgrades to
the docking station drivers (in fact, i didn't even install any
drivers for the dock).
I don't know if the dock added any bootable devices. How do I check
this?
I've encountered this issue in the past when a floppy disk was in the
drive, but I don't have a floppy drive, nor does the laptop have any
cds in its cdrom drive.
It's only a single boot and has never been dual boot..

Actually I just checked the docking station properly (it was passed on
to me by a friend), and it has a removable hdd in it.
I'm assuming the bios is trying to boot from it.

I will try changing this, and, if it still fails, remove the hdd and
try again.

I will post my finds.
In the mean time, if anyone can think of anything else, it'd be much
appreciated.

Thanks,

I.

Well the answer was too simple!!
Thanks to all who replied.
I don't know what's in the removable hard drive that might be causing
the booting sequence to fail, nor do i know why, all of a sudden, the
bios was looking at it as a first booting device, however I made my
internal hdd the primary booting source and now it works.

Again, thanks to all for your help.

Regard,s

I.
