Windows downloaded auto updates, rebooted and then wouldnt open at all. I
hunted down an installation disk (I am away from home) but find I cannot even
get the error page to respond to keyboard commands to reboot from disc etc.
Cant F8 to get to bios, F12 gets me the blue page of booting options but
arrows, enter or esc wont work....Yes, keyboard is OK as F12 command works.
I feel this updates instigated problem has caused more damage than it has for
others...any suggestions to recover the problem...

Full Windows version (e.g., Vista SP1)?

What updates were installed and when?

Is this your post, too? =>

Hi PAB, Yes I have a full windows version of Home Premium and I believe SP1
was downloaded and installed about a week or so ago on automatic updates.
As for the updates that have caused the problem, I wish I knew as I cant
boot up to see what was done...(Catch 22 I guess) but it was a group of three
updates and I was notified they were downloaded and that the machine would
restart to complete installation. This happened on Saturday 16 August, PM
Australian time.
Yes, this is my post as well. I plugged one into a string and did a new
subject one later.

Sorry PAB, No the post from the guy in Dubai was not mine. I am in the
Snowy Mountains of NSW Australia. BUT it appears from a google search that
this problem with the ntoskrnl.exe file as a result of updates is pretty
common !!!

peej_a wombat, use F2 for acess to bios, then choose your bootoption
You can choose cd/usb/or FDD for boot device; google vista ntoskerne
corrupt, which is the case for a lot of noload problems. You might tr
download for ntoskernel from U$ boot disk or online source if you ca
find it. Everybody wants to sell a dream, no joy on single download o
the kernel. best I have at this time... luck peej-
