well i'm frustrated with this vista sp1 update. when i try to install sp1 i
get the dreaded error and black screen. saying ntoskrnl.exe missing or
corrupt. i have tried installing several times all to the same end. i was
able to recover to the time before the sp1 download but am unable to go any
further back than that. how do I remove the file that holds the update? and
where is it located? i am using vista home premium 32bit. please help i am
unable to shut down my laptop or else it re loads the update.

Has Windows Update offered SP1 or are you attempting to install it manually?

Windows Vista Service Pack 1 [may not be] available for installation from
Windows Update and is not offered by Automatic Updates:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/948343

Unlimited installation and compatibility support for Vista SP1 is available
at no charge through (but only through) 18 Mar-09:

• US:
http://support.microsoft.com/oas/def...4&gprid=500921

• CA:
http://support.microsoft.com/oas/def...4&gprid=500921

• UK:
http://support.microsoft.com/oas/def...4&gprid=500921

• AU:
http://support.microsoft.com/oas/def...4&gprid=500921

• Other: http://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx | select Windows
Vista | select Windows Vista Service Pack 1
