NTVDM.EXE has stopped working.

A while back, I tried to install some old software in Vista. I succeeded
with some and failed with others. The reason for the failure was that
NTVDM.EXE "has stopped working." I tried to install those that failed of
installation through the Compatibility Wizard but to no avail. Then I
reformatted the drive and reinstalled Vista through recovery DVD's that I
purchased from the manufacturer. The problem remained.

I'm at an impass. The only thing I can think of is that a recovery DVD is
defective.

Would it be possible to find NTDVD.EXE on the Internet somewhere and
download it? If so, I would have to know just where to put it.

Otherwise, I will have to report this problem to the manufacturer and see
what happens.

I would appreciate some help with this one.

This problem seems to have never been resolved, so I thought I woul
take a shot at it

I experienced this same problem when I installed a old calculator ap
named NstCalc on my Vista notebook. It worked perfectly well wit
Windows 95, 98, ME (yes, ME) and XP, but the error message appeared wit
Vista when I opened the app and clicked the app help button. I wa
frustrated with this for some time and then fixed my problem almos
accidentally, by trial and error

I clicked on the shortcut I had created to this app, clicke
Properties, Compatability, and then checked "Run this program as a
administrator" in the Privileges Level box

Viola! Problem fixed. I don't know how this fixed it for me, but i
did. I am the administrator of my own notebook, so the fix is puzzling
I know the old app is 16 bit, so needing to check Run as admin mus
have been necessary. I hope this fixes the problem for others who ar
running old 16 bit apps

You may want to look at autoexec.nt and/or config.nt in windows\system3
- you may want to up the Files value in config.nt - I was having thi
problem - REM'd out the BLASTER statement in autoexec.nt/up'd files i
config.nt to 60/rebooted and problem was gone
