Vista Ultimate 32-bit. DELL Dimension 9200 with NVIDIA 7900 GS

Yesterday I installed the latest drivers from the NVIDIA site (ver. 190.62)
and now the graphic card fan starts running each time I open something
(e.go. Internet or Windows Explorer, or the Notepad).

Anyone met such a problem?

Roll back to the previous drivers. Problem fixed? If yes, then don't update
the drivers. Unless you are a gamer trying to squeeze every bit of framerate
goodness out of your card and/or some problem you are having is addressed
with the updated drivers, there is no reason to install new drivers.

Also ensure the GPU heatsink and fan are free of dust.

NVidia Ntune is useful for monitoring and adjusting temperature/fa
rate. Available for both 32- and 64-bit Vista

Agreed. Although most vendors, when contacted about problems with their
software, will immediately ask "Do you have the latest graphics drivers?"

Thanks to all for your kind help.

I have already rolled back (would go crazy with the noise otherwise), but
I'm still curious. I've been using NVIDIA cards for more than 10 years now,
all sorts of cards in all sorts of machines, always kept drivers up to date,
and never repeat never had a single issue. Makes me even more curious.

I'll give nTune a try. The last version I have is from 2005, so I'm now
downloading the 2007 version.
