Don't try and download video drivers from Windows Update.

If you have a desktop computer, visit http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp
and download/install the latest drivers for Windows. Be sure to uninstall
the old drivers first (look in Add or Remove Programs for NVIDIA drivers).

How do I install the NVIDIA Detonator drivers for Windows?

If you have a notebook computer, you should visit the support website of
the manufacturer of your notebook, search for the correct video adapter
drivers for your specific notebook model, download and install them.

Thanks for this valuable advice.

For me, it come too late, unfortunately.

One question:
why oh why is MS offering those drivers on WindowsUpdate?

I trusted MS WU, and like you hinted at
the WU video drivers totally messed up my display
- (video-out stopped working, etc,
basically, WU offered a generic driver)
I needed propriety drivers from my pc/notebook manufactorer,
like you mentioned.

I'm still puzzled why MS keeps on offering these drivers on WU...

Carey, I would appreciate a clarification concerning the uninstall of the
existing NVIDIA drivers. When I remove the old NVIDIA drivers with the
ADD/Remove function, do I then install the new NVIDIA drivers or do I reboot
the computer (I guess then windows XP will temporarily provide generic
drivers initially??) and then install the new drivers?? Thanks for any
help, Sam.
