I'm using the same card with only one problem. The card's fan stays on all
the time. Supposedly, this is a driver issue. I'm currently using the 100.65
driver (32-bit) from nVidia. I've also tried the current beta version
101.41. No difference. The drivers still aren't optimized yet so there are
still some shading and performance inefficiencies.

Other than the above, I'm not experiencing any other issues.

I have the same problem with the noisy fan but that's mot my main problem.

I was on the phone with Dell tech support (on a non fan related issue) and I
put the phone up to the PC so he could hear the fan and he said he would
have no problem doing a warranty replacement on the video card.

What make / model PC do you have?

If you are not running the NVIDIA 101.41 Beta Drivers I suggest that you
install them. However, be sure and read the release notes for them before
you install them. The NVIDIA Vista drivers are not yet complete as you will
read in the release notes and each month they get better.

I have a Dell XPS 400 purchased 7/2006. It came with a 6800 GS. I bought a
PNY 7900 GS card in January of this year to upgrade the 6800.

If you read the Dell Community regarding the fan noise of a 7900 GS, you'll
see others who opted for a warranty replacement and it made no difference.
So, I don't believe it's the card but rather the drivers.

Anyway, since you're having other issues with your card, go for the warranty
replacement with Dell and hopefully those issues will be resolved. Just know
the noisy fan will still be there.

I think the guy was offering to get me a different make of card.

I have an exchange PC coming to see if that fixes the other problems and if
it does I'll deal with the noise issue then

Here is my fix. I'm using the 100.65 WHQL 32 driver btw. I have a 7600 GT

Note: Ntune is not a good workaround. 1. It is meant for Nvidia
motherboards. 2. The fan only remains quiet for a given session, a reboot or
putting the system to sleep and re-awakening returns the fan to full speed.
3. Ntune is buggy with Vista.

Open Power Options/Settings and select Power saver as the plan.
Click on Change plan settings for the Power saver.
In the next window select Change advanced power settings
In the Power Options Advance settings scroll down and expand Processor power
management. For both Minimum processor state and Maximum processor state set
both to 100%. Click ok Save changes. Note: It may take a minute or 2 for the
graphics card fan to go off after performing these steps.

This is working flawlessly for me so far. Hope this helps everyone else and
spread the word if it does! I know a lot of people are annoyed by this bug
until a real fix comes from Nvidia.
