I have recently been working on a friend's computer which I reinstalled with
XP Home complete with Service Pack 3.
After running Microsoft Update and then rebooting the computer, the screen
appeared to burn from the bottom right hand corner and this worked it's way
over the entire screen. The image that remained was a picture of Jesus's
face. The computer then froze and I had to restart it using the power button.
I was unsure which file had caused the problem and after another three clean
installs, I found that the responsible file was the nVidia MX420 driver from
the Microsoft Update web site.

I have since reinstalled the computer again and this time I used the nVidia
driver from nVidia's web site which works perfectly.

Which reveals the golden rule of hardware driver updates: DON'T GET THEM
FROM WINDOWS UPDATES!

I don't trust WU/MU for video drivers. Get it from the manufacturer's site
only.
